Body Language, The Emoji, and Your Cello

Students participating in Krassi Figg’s “Body Language, The Emoji, and Your Cello” will learn how to effectively communicate gestures, movements, motions, and maintain a natural breathing pattern. You will find it easier to play in tune, stay in time, and sustain a good tone production. The “cello emoji” are symbolic images that will give you a virtual toolbox to address issues with technique and take your performance to the next level.

Piano Workshop

Students will study basic theory and terminology, as well as develop new practice habits and skills, learn to harmonize, transpose, and sight read. Advanced students will learn much about intonation and phrasing. Students will also get the chance to play solo works and engage in group discussions. Most important, Ms. Lantos aims to make this a fun and positive experience that you can take with you throughout your life as a musician!

Summer Piano Seminar

This weeklong seminar will include masterclasses in which constructive feedback will be individualized and pertinent to each performance. The interaction with each performer will address many aspects of music making, including technique, listening and interpretation. Historical background of the composers and the compositions performed will also be included in the masterclass discussions. In addition to masterclass performances, students will have the opportunity to enhance their musicianship skills through fun daily activities that include sight-reading, improvisation, and the preparation of ensemble music (piano duets).

Summer Clarinet Seminar

This weeklong clarinet seminar teaches students to identify and develop fundamental techniques for effective clarinet performance. Each class includes separate focuses including tone production, technical development, intonation, articulation, and interpretation. The exploration of multiple practice methods for developing skills long after the seminar ends are included in this course.

Summer Flute Workshop

This is a one week workshop that will allow you to create music, blend the sounds of the flute, and improve your musicianship to share with others. We will focus on hand position, intonation technique, articulation, breathing, and how to practice effectively. We will also explore All Region music, scales, solos, etudes, as well as flute choir music.

Violin and Viola Masterclass

A one-week seminar with the intent to expand your capabilities by engaging in a combination of technical practice focusing on physical naturalness, or ergonomics, and chamber music. Mr. Pollak will also engage the students in extra-musical activities that will consist of simple exercises derived from his studies and practice in yoga, meditation, and tai-chi.

Electric Bass for the String Bass Player

A one week workshop for string bass players that will take what you already know about the string bass and transfer your skills to the electric bass. Why? String bass players are often requested to “double” on electric bass. This one week intensive masterclass will teach you how to transfer your string bass skills to the electric bass. You will be movin’ and groovin’ on the electric bass quickly! Please bring and electric bass and a small amp to class. A few amps may be available upon request.

Walk That Bass!

A one-week workshop that will get you groovin’ and creating great walking bass lines all over your instrument. Why? Bass players need to learn how to construct their own bass lines for various styles of music. This one-week intensive masterclass will explore how to build these lines on your own.
