Musical Theatre Workshop

Are you interested in musical theatre? Are you planning to participate in community theatre productions? Do you just love to sing and want to improve your presentation skills? Come fine tune your performance at The bART this Summer!

WHO: Ages 18 and up

WHEN: Monday/Wednesday, June 3 – 12, 5:00 – 7:00pm or Tuesday/Thursday, June 4 – 13, 10:00am – 12:00pm.

COST: $175

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING:

Comfortable clothes for easy movement. 2 song choices appropriate to your age (sheet music and digital accompaniment often free on YouTube, if possible). Notebook. Pencil. Water bottle.

Musical Theatre Audition Workshop

Are you interested in musical theatre? Are you planning on doing musicals at your school, auditioning for college programs, or participating in community theatre productions? Come fine tune your audition skills at the bART this summer and learn how to be your best at your next musical audition!

WHEN: Monday/Wednesday, June 3 – 12, 2:30 – 4:30pm or Tuesday/Thursday June 4 – 13, 1:00 – 3:00pm.

Classical Students to the World of Opera

In this one-week course, students will work with several operas-learning the stories, listening to the music, and channeling the characters. The students will learn abridged arias, duets, and trios, and put them into scenes, which the instructor will then stage. Students will learn to translate the language which will enable them to have a better emotional connection to the texts they will be singing, and examine their characters and their characters’ relationships.

Teaching Artist: Diane Morrow

WHO: Female and male students with at least two years of voice lessons, with some knowledge of the Italian and German languages necessary.

WHEN: June 24 – 28, 11:00am – 1:00pm

The Classical Student to Jazz Stylings

Students will explore the world of jazz through listening to the great jazz singers and learn styling with handouts on jazz technique and imagination. Students will also explore scat singing, beginning with “nonsense” syllables and finding their own melodies from the tonality of the song. Jazz techniques will be learned and incorporated within several songs spanning from the 1930s through the 1960s.

Teaching Artist: Diane Morrow

WHO: Female and male students with at least two years of voice lessons, a developed ear, and some sight-reading ability.

WHEN: July 15 – 19, 11:00am – 1:00pm
