Roger Henry

Multiple Instruments

Roger Henry started playing guitar at the age of 14. He went on to study classical guitar at the N.C. School of the Arts with both Larry Almeida and Aaron Shearer. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Music from Salisbury University in Maryland.
In Maryland, Roger taught private lessons on guitar in many different styles. He loves to transcribe songs by ear and has transcribed thousands of pop and rock songs, in addition to other styles. He also played in several rock and blues bands while in Maryland. As a classical/fingerstyle guitarist, he was the house musician at several fine dining restaurants and a frequent wedding performer.
For the past 13 years, Roger ran and taught at a music school called the Sunset Academy of Music in San Francisco. The pandemic forced the closing of this school so he is new to Oklahoma, but happy for the change.
Roger loves to dabble on different instruments and teaches beginner students on sax, flute, violin, viola, cello, piano, recorder, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, concertina, clarinet, harmonica, and bass. He enjoys developing music methodologies to better the learning process for his students.
Apart from music, Roger’s hobbies include exercising, playing the Chinese/Japanese game of GO, pool, and hanging with his rabbits and cats.
As a philosophy in teaching, Roger believes in keeping lessons fun and doable for students of all ages and abilities.
