RAPS 101: From Ideas to Execution (ages 13-18)

Instructor: Derek Clark (Tulsa rapper FirstVerse)

Description: This course will explore elements and technical aspects of hip-hop lyricism as a means for students to harness their creativity and personal expression through songwriting. Emphasis will be placed on students learning and applying these lessons at their own pace, and any sharing of their writing with the teacher or class remaining optional. Engagement will be paramount, and cooperative activities will be incorporated into lessons in a communal framework, with the main focus remaining on each individual student finding agency through full creative control of their own work. No prerequisite or corequisite courses required. This course will take place at Lacy Park, and is funded in part by The Opportunity Project’s Tulsa Youth SummerOpp Program Fund.

When: Mondays, June 7 – July 26 from 4:00 to 6:00pm

-or- Wednesdays, June 9 – July 28, 4:00-6:00pm
