A native of Ohio and a Tulsa transplant of 42 years, Mrs. Cynthia John earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where she studied under David L. Bean, Artist-in-Residence and Jerome Stanley, faculty accompanist. In addition, as the student faculty accompanist, she supported vocal and instrumental students and also minored in flute performance while marching in the Miami Marching Machine and playing the piccolo in Symphonic Band.
She also served as the accompanist for the college’s instrumental and vocal programs which traveled extensively since Miami University, a liberal arts public university, operates the largest study abroad program in the world based out of Luxembourg.
She also is a certified teacher of piano pedagogy from Sherwood Music School which is now Columbia University in Chicago where she studied under renowned Ukrainian pianist and music editor Leo Podolsky.
Since relocating to Tulsa 45 years ago she has taught private piano and flute lessons in her home as well as group lessons for 10 years when she was a certified Kimball Piano Instructor at Shields Music and later at Saied Music.
She served as the accompanist for 15 years at 3 Tulsa Public Schools-Thoreau Demonstration Academy, Byrd Junior High and Memorial High School. Currently she is the collaborative pianist for the Bixby High School Vocal programs under the direction of Kevin Pearson. She is also an alto in the Parkview Baptist Church choir and loves participating and teaching ensemble performance. She has been an instructor at the bART since 2016.
