In partnership with Union Public Schools, The bART Center for Music provides early childhood music education to eight classrooms of Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Led by bART teaching artists Jenny Kane and Marquelle Brown, the children are directly engaged in music and movement activities during their school hours.

The primary goal of instruction is for children to experience being music makers. Having this cultural experience early aids in developing basic music competence. A typical music and movement class includes the following parts: classroom set-up, ritual songs (to begin and end the class), finger plays or dramatic songs, instrument play, and movement. Areas of instruction include: a) Singing – children are exposed to a wide range of classic folk and multi-cultural songs, as well as original compositions; b) Movement – music and movement cannot be separated, and children are encouraged to interact and respond to musical activities with both choreographed and free movement; c) Instrument play – children engage in playing age-appropriate instruments in each class.

For over 10 years The bART Center for Music has provided Early Childhood Development in public schools at no cost to the school, the children, or their families
through generous support of The Oklahoma Arts Council, The Sharna and Irvin Frank Foundation, and The Joseph L. Hull Jr. Family Foundation.
