The bART’s World Percussion program provides a cultural experience through the language of music and communicates the history of rhythm in a fun learning environment that promotes resilience, confidence, and cooperation. Through various styles of music—especially Latin American, Caribbean, and African rhythms, starting with the African rhythms and the migration of sounds through the Caribbean and South America—each student makes use of material learned to express themselves in a creative way. Every class includes beat, a variety of rhythms, polyrhythms, terminology such as pitch, dynamics, tone color, and tempo. In addition to mastering world percussion instruments, the students will learn improvisational skills, elements of rhythm, and harmonious group presence.
Michael Bremo
Michael Bremo attended Codarts Conservatory of Rotterdam,The
Netherlands and University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond Oklahoma.
Growing up on the island of Aruba has made Bremo a well-versed
percussionist in various styles of music, especially world-music and jazz.
Versatility has made him a musician on demand, locally, as well as
internationally. He has performed throughout the Caribbean, Latin America,
USA, and Europe with world-class musicians, such as Alex Han (Marcus
Miller), Alex Brown, Oscar Stagnaro (Paquito D’Rivera), Pernell Saturnino
(Chick Corea, Paquito D’Rivera) Vince Norman, John Daversa and Tony
Monaco.
He currently keeps a busy schedule teaching and performance with
Count Tutu, Bossa and also as a free-lance musician.
