Senior Spotlight 2023: Yelizaveta Ignatenkova

Name: Yelizaveta Ignatenkova

Instrument: Violin & Cello

How long have you been involved in music?

10 years (since 3rd grade)

Why is music important to you?

“When you’re happy you enjoy the music, when you’re sad you understand the lyrics” of course the music I play, doesn’t have words in it. But when I’m happy, I like singing to the song I want to scream the lyrics, and when I’m sad, I want to play the music. This makes me think of the difference in musicians. Music is something we all see different. In reference to the Bible, “the New Testament” the first four books are about the same story seen by different people. When one might’ve seen an event as sad, another explains it as in joyful event. Same in music, playing the different composers’ pieces, shows the different personalities.

Tell us about your time at The bART.

The BART helped me see that difference. The bART opened new instruments to me and helped me evolve in my musical education. I play in church orchestra, school orchestra, and hopefully I will play orchestra in college. All thanks to the BART.

Where will you be going from here?

TCC, and hopefully joining their orchestra.

A message from Yelizaveta:

Special thanks to my mom who didn’t let me give up, who was my first teacher, and my music theory teacher. A big thanks to Mrs. Robin Smith for her patience, as well as teaching me. She showed we different ways in using the instruments to express my feelings through them.
