Group Experiences – Summer 2024

We have provided a list of group experiences that we will be offering at The bART below! Please pre-register or email us at info@thebart.org if you are interested in any of the following options.

Summer Ensemble Camp

CLASS DESCRIPTION: This summer, students of multiple disciplines and levels will have the opportunity to explore and perform a variety of ensemble music with bART teaching artist Yvonne Hazelton. Available opportunities are listed below. NOTE: We are NOT limited to the below ensembles and are open to non-conventional groupings! Please pre-register if you are interested in playing in an ensemble this summer, even if you don’t see your instrument listed below.

  • Teacher: Yvonne Hazelton
  • When: Tuesdays, starting June 4th through June 25th (4 sessions)
  • Class Length: 90 minutes (with a 10-minute break)
  • Ages: Middle School and High School (Ages 12-18)
  • Prerequisites: Intermediate to advanced players with the ability to learn repertoire by June 4th.
  • Tuition: $350.00 *Due by the first day of class 
  1. Piano Ensemble A
    1. Level: Advanced
    2. Number of pianists needed: 3-4 (2 pianos, 4 hands)
    3. Repertoire to be studied: Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre
  2. Piano Ensemble B
    1. Level: Intermediate to Advanced
    2. Number of pianists needed: 2-3
    3. Repertoire to be studied: Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro
  3. Piano Ensemble C
    1. Level: Intermediate
    2. Number of pianists needed: 2
    3. Repertoire to be studied: Short Brahms dances, TBD
  4. Woodwind Ensemble
    1. Level: Intermediate
    2. Instrumentation needed:
      1. Two flute and one clarinet (or oboe) or
      2. One flute, one clarinet, and one bass bassoon or bass clarinet
    3. Repertoire to be studied: Arrangements of classical dance forms and folk music
  5. Piano Trio (Violin, Cello, Piano)
    1. Level: Early intermediate
    2. Number of musicians needed: 2-3
    3. Repertoire to be studied: Arrangements of classical dance forms and folk music

Mr. Broome’s Listening Room

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Mr. Broome’s Listening Room is a weekly class to discuss the specifics of creativity and creation. Discussions will cover a variety topics, such as where to find inspiration, how to make art and music with available objects, how to integrate technology into your art, and the specifics required to get other people involved in your art. This will be accomplished in class by sharing examples of current trends in music, analyzing those examples, and guest lecturers to discuss their professional experience in art and composition. At the end of the course, students are encouraged to present a piece of their own creation to their pieces. No prior musical experience is required.

  • When: Mondays, starting June 3rd through June 24th (4 sessions)
  • Class Length: 4:00 to 6:00pm
  • Ages: Middle School and High School (Ages 12-18)
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Tuition: $350.00 *Due by the first day of class 

Beginning String Ensembles

CLASS DESCRIPTION: This summer, string students with 1-3 years of playing experience will have the opportunity to form a small group and learn how to play together in a small ensemble setting. Playing in a small ensemble is a great way to prepare for a larger orchestra experience in future years!

  • Teacher: Robin Smith
  • When: Thursdays, starting June 6th through June 27th (4 sessions)
  • Class Length: 11:00am to 12:00pm
  • Ages: Late Elementary School to Middle School (Ages 8-12)
  • Prerequisites: Students with a minimum of 1 year of private string instruction on violin, viola, cello, or bass
  • Tuition: $300.00 *Due by the first day of class 

Group Beginning Guitar Class for Adults

CLASS DESCRIPTION: This summer, we will be offering a group beginning guitar class for adults on Fridays from 12 to 1pm during your lunch hour at The bART Center for Music! Join local Tulsa musician and teacher Tye Slagle in a 7-week exploration of guitar starting June 7th going through July 26th. Anyone can join! Don’t have an instrument? Rentals are available at The bART.

  • Teacher: Tye Slagle
  • When: Fridays, June 7th through July 26th (7 sessions) *We will be closed Friday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day
  • Class Length: 12:00pm to 1:00pm
  • Ages: Adults
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Tuition: $180.00 *Due by the first day of class
